KISS Unleashes New Anthem: Gene Simmons Confirms New Paul Stanley Track in the Works
In a recent interview with KISS superfan Sienna Hernandez on KISSbySienna, the iconic bassist and vocalist Gene Simmons dropped a bombshell: KISS is in the studio, recording a brand-new track penned by none other than guitarist and vocalist Paul Stanley. Simmons tantalizingly stated, "KISS is in the studio now. So we just recorded a new song, as a matter of fact, that Paul wrote. I can't tell you more about it. And that'll be coming out at some point."
This revelation follows last month’s announcement where Simmons hinted that "new" KISS songs would feature in an upcoming avatar-based KISS show slated for Las Vegas in 2028. This groundbreaking experience marks the first major U.S. endeavor for Pophouse Entertainment, the Swedish music investment firm co-founded by ABBA's Björn Ulvaeus. When pressed for details on which songs would be showcased, Gene cryptically remarked, "Exactly what that means, written by us. We have songs done."
It’s been over a decade since KISS released a full-length album of new material, with their last effort, "Monster," hitting the shelves in 2012 and debuting at No. 3 on The Billboard 200, selling 56,000 copies in its first week. This was preceded by "Sonic Boom," which opened at No. 2 back in October 2009, moving an impressive 108,000 units — the highest-charting LP in KISS history.
In a previous chat with TMZ, Paul Stanley alluded to the vibe of the new music, stating, "I think we'd probably go for something that's classic, but everything has to have a beat. You gotta be able to dance to it, but it should still be rock." He elaborated on the lyrical themes, emphasizing timeless messages of freedom, self-empowerment, and the joy of living life on one’s own terms. "That doesn't change. It doesn't matter how old you are. You're supposed to enjoy your life, you're supposed to do things your way. That's timeless. That's rock and roll."
Earlier this year, during the "KISS Kruise: Landlocked In Vegas" at the Virgin Hotels resort, Stanley teased the possibility of new music, saying, "There may be some KISS music in the works. We like to tell you what we're doing, the things that are planned. The problem is that so much of what we may bring up never comes to fruition, but music, yeah, that looks pretty damn… more than possible. Probable. I'm not going to give you any hints, but I only write when there's a project — and I've been writing."
In stark contrast to earlier sentiments where he questioned the need for new material, Stanley's current enthusiasm indicates a shift in perspective. He previously expressed skepticism about the need for a new KISS album, suggesting that classic bands often face a disconnect with their newer creations. However, it appears that the fire to create is once again burning bright within the KISS camp. As fans await further details, one thing is clear: KISS is gearing up to reclaim their throne in the rock realm.
