Puddle of Mudd’s Wes Scantlin Avoids Jail Time, Ordered Into Program After Arrest

Wes Scantlin, frontman of the rock band Puddle of Mudd, has avoided jail time following his 2025 arrest on domestic violence and drug possession charges. Instead, a judge approved a plea agreement placing the singer into a one-year diversion program that includes mandatory drug rehabilitation.

The charges stem from an incident in 2025 in Torrance, California, where police responded to a report of a dispute between Scantlin and his girlfriend. Authorities alleged that the altercation became physical and that a controlled substance was discovered during the arrest, leading to both domestic violence and drug possession charges.

Under the terms of the plea deal, Scantlin will participate in a diversion program rather than serving jail time. The agreement requires him to complete a rehabilitation program and comply with court-ordered conditions over the next year. If he successfully completes the program, the remaining charges tied to the case could ultimately be dismissed.

The court also scheduled a progress hearing later this year to review Scantlin’s compliance with the program and treatment requirements.

Scantlin, who has served as the longtime singer and only consistent member of Puddle of Mudd since the band’s formation in the early 1990s, has experienced several legal issues over the years, including prior arrests related to DUI, trespassing, and other incidents.

Despite the controversy surrounding the case, the latest ruling means the musician will avoid incarceration for the incident—provided he fulfills the conditions of the diversion program moving forward.
