Shock rock legend Alice Cooper has announced a new memoir titled Devil On My Shoulder, offering fans an in-depth look at his six-decade career and the complicated relationship between his stage persona and the man behind it.

The book is scheduled for release in October 2026 and will be published in multiple formats, including hardcover, ebook, and audiobook editions. The memoir is being described as Cooper’s “definitive autobiography,” promising an honest and detailed reflection on his life in rock music.

In the book, Cooper—born Vincent Damon Furnier—explores how the theatrical “Alice Cooper” character evolved from a band name into a larger-than-life persona that eventually became his legal name. Over the years, the shock-rock image and the real person behind it became closely intertwined, creating a dual identity that shaped both his music and his personal life.

The memoir is expected to revisit many famous moments from Cooper’s career, including the controversial stage theatrics that made him a pioneer of shock rock. Performances involving guillotines, snakes, horror-themed props, and provocative imagery helped turn him into one of the most recognizable figures in rock music.

Cooper also plans to address the darker periods of his life, including his struggles with alcohol and addiction during the height of his fame. He has said the book will explore how those experiences affected his creativity and personal relationships, as well as his eventual path to sobriety and spiritual faith.

In discussing the project, Cooper explained that he wanted the memoir to separate myth from reality after decades of rumors and exaggerated stories surrounding his career. According to the singer, the goal is to reveal what really happened behind many of rock’s most infamous legends.

Alongside the book’s release, Cooper is expected to participate in promotional events and a book tour, giving fans a chance to hear more stories from one of rock’s most enduring performers.
