Skid Row Joins Forces With Sweetwater for Global Lead Singer Search
Hard rock veterans Skid Row have officially launched a worldwide search for their next lead vocalist, partnering with music retail giant Sweetwater to find the right voice to front the band.
Following the amicable departure of singer Erik Grönwall in March 2024 due to health reasons, the band has spent nearly two years carefully vetting candidates. This new collaboration with Sweetwater aims to widen the net, inviting singers from across the globe to audition for one of the most coveted roles in rock.
Not a Contest, But a Calling
The band is emphasizing that this is a professional search rather than a reality-style competition. "This isn't a contest. This isn't a gimmick," the band stated via Sweetwater. "This is your chance to join."
Skid Row—currently comprised of founding members Rachel Bolan (bass), Dave "Snake" Sabo (guitar), and Scotti Hill (guitar), along with drummer Rob Hammersmith—is looking for a frontman who possesses not just vocal range, but the presence and conviction necessary to carry a legacy that includes multi-platinum hits like "18 and Life," "I Remember You," and "Youth Gone Wild."
How to Audition
Aspiring vocalists are being asked to submit video auditions through Sweetwater’s dedicated "Skid Row: The Next Chapter" portal. Submissions must include:
A Video Introduction: A brief bio explaining why you should be the next voice of Skid Row.
Performance Footage: Recordings of the candidate performing two specific Skid Row classics: "18 And Life" and "Youth Gone Wild."
A New Chapter for the Jersey Legends
The search marks a proactive step forward for the band, who recently enjoyed a critical and commercial resurgence with their 2022 album, The Gang's All Here. While the group performed a handful of successful dates with Lzzy Hale (Halestorm) sitting in on vocals in 2024, they have remained clear that they are seeking a permanent, full-time member to lead them into their next era.
Bassist Rachel Bolan recently noted that the band has "a couple of guys on the radar," but the Sweetwater partnership ensures that no stone is left unturned. With longtime producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Rush) also assisting in the vetting process, the band hopes to be back on the road by the end of 2026.
