CANNIBAL CORPSE Reflects on the Grind of Touring After Nearly Four Decades

In a raw and revealing chat with "Reckless" Rexx Ruger of Pod Scum, Paul Mazurkiewicz, the backbone of Florida's death metal titans CANNIBAL CORPSE, shared his thoughts on how the relentless tour life has morphed since the band's inception nearly forty years ago. "Yeah, it's definitely different. We'd be lying if we said it’s just as exciting and gung-ho as in the early days," he admits. Yet, the flame of passion still burns bright as they gear up to deliver their raw sound to legions of die-hard fans.

As Mazurkiewicz reflects on the grind, he acknowledges the toll of the road, stating, "The older we get, the harder it gets to be away and live on a bus with everybody." Yet, the veteran drummer leans into his experience, noting, "We’ve been doing it our whole lives, so I guess we know how to make it work." With each tour, he balances the rigors of life on the road with the need for self-care, ensuring he stays fit to thrash behind the kit.

"It's about maintaining health on the road," he says, emphasizing the importance of hydration, proper nutrition, and daily walks. The camaraderie of traveling with a crew of nine can be a double-edged sword, especially as they age, but Mazurkiewicz finds solace in the simple act of stepping outside to breathe in the fresh air. "Being a Floridian now, I appreciate the warmth of the weather on tour, unlike those brutal winter treks where you're bundled up and stuck indoors," he quips.
