RUSH Fans Rock the Fundraising Stage: Neil Peart Memorial Hits $1 Million Goal!
In a triumphant display of unity and devotion, legendary Canadian rock titans RUSH have propelled the Neil Peart Memorial fundraising campaign to a staggering $1 million, thanks to the unwavering support of their passionate fanbase. In a heartfelt gesture during their recent concert at Toronto's Scotiabank Arena, Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson presented a jaw-dropping $785,000 cheque to the Neil Peart Commemorative Task Force Fundraising Sub-Committee, solidifying the band's commitment to honor their late drummer's legacy.
The fundraising campaign, which aims to create a public art memorial at Lakeside Park in St. Catharines, Ontario, will officially wind down on October 15, 2026. Fans still have the golden opportunity to leave their mark on history by purchasing commemorative fan panels, which will be permanently engraved as part of the memorial. However, with limited spots available, those eager to contribute must act fast!
“After years of tireless efforts by the Neil Peart Commemorative Task Force and the phenomenal support from the community, this monumental contribution from RUSH ensures our $1 million fundraising goal,” proclaimed Eric Lamothe, City Manager of Community Programs and Parks. “This isn’t just about celebrating Neil Peart; it’s about transforming Lakeside Park into a world-class cultural landmark, a sanctuary where music lovers can congregate, reflect, and pay homage to an icon for generations to come.”
Established in the wake of Peart's passing on January 7, 2020, the Neil Peart Commemorative Task Force has worked diligently to create a lasting tribute that resonates with both fans and the local community. The memorial, set to be designed by Morgan MacDonald of The Newfoundland Bronze Foundry, will feature two monumental bronze sculptures of Peart, linked by a pathway that encapsulates his profound legacy, including his storied journey with RUSH.
“Our mission has always been to create a tribute worthy of Neil's incredible legacy and his deep roots in St. Catharines,” stated Meg Symsyk, Chair of the Task Force. “Fans from all corners of the globe are already making the pilgrimage to Lakeside Park, and this memorial will only deepen that connection, cementing it as a lasting destination for all who cherish Neil and his music.”
As plans for the memorial continue to unfold, a staff report will be presented at the upcoming City Council meeting in September, detailing the next steps. Tentatively, the Neil Peart Memorial is expected to rise by late 2027, forever echoing the rhythms of a drummer whose impact on music remains undeniably legendary.
