Nergal to Revisit BEHEMOTH's Roots with MISÞYRMING in 2026

A nostalgic journey awaits as BEHEMOTH's frontman opens up about embracing the past with a live performance of 'Sventevith' for its 30th anniversary.

In a raw and revealing interview with Jerry Kurunen of Finland's Rauta, the formidable Adam "Nergal" Darski of BEHEMOTH laid bare his upcoming live project alongside Icelandic black metal titans MISÞYRMING. The duo will unleash a full-throttle performance of BEHEMOTH's 1995 debut, "Sventevith (Storming Near The Baltic)", marking its 30-year anniversary in a way that promises to send shivers down the spine of metalheads everywhere.

Nergal, once a staunch critic of the nostalgia-laden album tours that many bands indulge in, now finds himself on the other side of the fence. In his own words, he recalls a time during the era of "The Satanist" where he scoffed at bands revisiting their pasts. "I was so proud... but eventually I started to like those revisits, those sentimental trips," he admitted, revealing a vulnerability that is all too rare in the metal scene. It seems that even the most hardened of metal warriors can succumb to the allure of nostalgia.

As he contemplates the future, Nergal hinted at the possibility of more full-album performances, albeit with some hesitation. "We might do something like that with BEHEMOTH, but after this upcoming tour, we're just taking time off," he remarked, leaving fans in suspense about the band’s next moves. "There are records in our discography that I would gladly revisit, like 'Demigod'... but others, like 'Zos Kia Cultus', I'm just saying no." It’s a candid reflection from an artist who is both critical and deeply connected to his own work.

Delving deeper into the essence of what makes a record resonate, Nergal shared his perspective on creating coherent albums, likening them to metal masterpieces like JUDAS PRIEST's "Painkiller" and METALLICA's "Master Of Puppets". He believes that while some of his albums are tightly knit and powerful, others fall short of that benchmark. "I always try to make a record that's gonna be wholesome... a journey that we take you to join," he explained, giving listeners insight into his artistic philosophy.

With BEHEMOTH's latest offering, "The Shit Ov God", unleashed upon the world in May 2025 through Nuclear Blast Records, Darski stands at a crossroads of his career. The anticipation for the live performance of "Sventevith" is palpable, as it promises to be a visceral experience for both the band and their loyal followers. In the ever-evolving landscape of metal, one thing remains clear: Nergal is ready to embrace his past while forging ahead into the future.
