Dweezil Zappa spotlights groundbreaking guitar technology at NAMM 2026 and announces a live album release honoring Frank Zappa.

Dweezil Zappa, renowned guitarist and son of Frank Zappa, recently provided an update from NAMM 2026 where he explored advancements in guitar technology by Shark Guitars. He emphasized their innovative approaches, particularly their novel fret system, which may significantly affect guitar performance and maintenance.

Zappa explained that while travel guitars with removable necks and swappable electronics have existed, Shark Guitars is elevating these ideas with their refined features. He suggests that changes to the frets could revolutionize how guitars are played, tuned, and customized in the future.

In addition to his involvement with guitar innovation, Dweezil announced the release of "Apostrophe Live," a detailed live concert recording of his father's album performed with his band and guest musicians. The album includes extensive improvisations and aims to provide a comprehensive audio-visual tribute to Frank Zappa's work.

Zappa invited fans to engage by sharing their favorite guitar solos from the live recording. He reflected on the challenge of performing his father's diverse music catalog and his growth in adapting his style over time. The "Apostrophe Live" album became available in early January, featuring special content for listeners.
