The NWOBHM legends unveil their latest album details and a breathtaking return of their iconic stage mascot.

Hold onto your horns, metalheads! In a no-holds-barred interview with Chas Byrne on Express FM, SAXON's axe-slinger Brian Tatler has confirmed that the band’s highly anticipated studio album, titled 'Gods Of Thunder', is locked and loaded, ready for a blast-off in early 2027 via Silver Lining Music. The album, polished to a gleam by renowned producer and JUDAS PRIEST guitarist Andy Sneap, is set to hit the shelves in January, and the excitement is palpable.

Tatler, who also boasts roots in the legendary DIAMOND HEAD, shared insights into his songwriting process for 'Gods Of Thunder' as well as SAXON's previous offering, 'Hell, Fire And Damnation'. He explained how he crafts riffs tailored for SAXON, while also navigating the intricate balance of creative input. His exchanges with frontman Biff Byford reveal a dynamic where all ideas are welcome, despite Tatler’s initial hesitations over whether certain riffs fit the SAXON mold. With Biff at the helm, the band’s collaborative spirit shines through, leading to a fine-tuned creative machine that has produced a staggering 25 albums.

Addressing Byford's recent health hurdles, including a triple bypass and cancer battles, Tatler assured fans that the band’s momentum remains unshaken. Biff’s return to form during rehearsals has reignited the fire, with Tatler praising his charisma and crowd-commanding presence. “He’s back to normal,” he said, a testament to Byford’s resilience and dedication to the metal scene. The recent gigs have showcased his powerful vocals, proving that nothing can keep a true metal warrior down.

As if the album reveal wasn’t enough, SAXON has also announced a monumental U.K. and Ireland leg of their 'Gods Of Thunder' world tour. This tour promises not just new material but also the revival of the legendary 30-foot mechanized Eagle that has become a symbol of SAXON’s legacy. Originally constructed in the '80s for their seminal album 'Denim And Leather', this majestic beast will once again grace the stage, accompanied by the epic 'Castles & Eagles' production that fans have come to adore. It’s a nostalgic nod that’s bound to electrify audiences across the U.K.

Byford himself emphasized the significance of this tour, stating, “We wanted to make the 'Gods Of Thunder' U.K. and Ireland tour extra special. And what better way than to fly our beloved SAXON Eagle again... Get ready for take-off!” So brace yourselves, metal faithful; the gods are indeed returning to their thrones, and it’s going to be a wild ride!
