I PREVAIL's ERIC VANLERBERGHE On Lineup Change: 'There Was Little Bit Of Uncertainty, But It Had To Be Squashed Down With Confidence'

I PREVAIL's Eric Vanlerberghe opens up about lineup changes and the band's evolving sound on 'Violent Nature.'

Eric Vanlerberghe, lead vocalist and founding member of I PREVAIL, spoke on The Joe Vulpis Podcast about the band’s latest album, 'Violent Nature,' released in September through Fearless Records. This album marked a significant shift, as Vanlerberghe took on both clean and unclean vocals following lineup changes.

Vanlerberghe acknowledged there was some uncertainty about how the band’s sound would evolve, with him stepping into a larger vocal role. However, he noted that the writing process remained consistent with guitarist Steve Menoian, ensuring the band’s core identity stayed intact despite the vocal changes.

He emphasized the band’s determination to keep pushing forward after more than a decade of building their career, saying they are committed to growth and are prepared to do whatever it takes to continue their success. Vanlerberghe reflected on his inspiration from music during his youth and expressed a desire to give back through the band’s work for many years to come.

The lineup change was prompted by clean vocalist Brian Burkheiser’s need to step away from touring due to Eagle’s syndrome, a painful medical condition. In Burkheiser’s absence, Vanlerberghe and guitarist Dylan Bowman have covered vocal duties, notably during recent tours and performances.

I PREVAIL gained significant recognition through their arena-level success, Grammy nominations, and chart-topping singles like 'Hurricane.' In 2024, they released an expanded edition of their album 'True Power' with new tracks and reimagined versions of previous singles, continuing to solidify their presence in the rock and metal scene.
