A state of blight consumes the land

The days grow darker, and the frozen cold entwines.

With my drained eyes each step I take

Feels like a sentence as my fate falls down on me.

For too long I tried to ease this pain inside of me.

As I run so far away to try and find some peace.

Winter stretches out its hands and embraces me into its home.

Night falls and the cold wind roars but somehow my body remains warm.

I hear lullabies draw near the longer that I walk.

As I go through a snowy forest I feel overjoyed.

The moon lights the way ahead and a pack of wolves protect my quest.

I stop at a frozen lake as a bright white creature stares at me.

As I get closer I can hear the creature’s breath.

When suddenly a whisper says to set it free.

I realize my hand holds strongly to a knife.

What should I do? What is this being?

I place the knife right where I feel its beating heart.

It whispers "once it’s done, no pain remains alive".

I push my hand, its shiny light begins to fade.

As that same light begins to shine… inside of me.
