Stagonolepis (Robertsoni/Wellesi/Olenkae) Lyrics

Thick armoured scales ran down its body

Heavy body armour to repel carnivores

Small headed, slowly moving browser

A long intestine to digest vegetation

Beak-like tip that arched upwards

Peg-like teeth to uproot plants

Snout-like unusual structure of the skull

Allowing to dig through the undergrowth

Chewing tough cycads, horsetails and ferns

Fossil remains found in sandstones

In Lossiemouth and Krasiejów deposits

Some species stratigraphically younger

Like the Stagonolepis Olenkae specimens

The genus Aetosauroides as a junior synonym

Aetosauroides Scagliai and Subsulcatus

Sequential studies to smaller specimens

Proposed they belonged to the Robertsoni

The Wellesi specimen was called Calyptosuchus

Now they belong to the same monotypic genera

And are restricted to the Carnian stage
