A task I could not

I was all of these and

None.

I took the wrong way out

My self-awareness gave me dignity.

The things I had seen

My new conscience locked them out

Now I remember everything.

Warm like blood coursing through me

This new feeling rose.

Out of my cold dimension

Into what I chose

Out of my head and into the darkness

What is compassion, which is love?

Out of the cold rain into the starkness

As the dying wait in their blood.

And if I help them what will that mean?

Saving their lives or aiding death?

Now that I know my name shall I go on

Breathing free will with bated breath?

Out of the clear bliss into the dark deep

Stories you’ve told that are my own

I have awoken now from my deep sleep

Have I the strength to take you home?

All that I wanted was to protect you

Always too early, never late.

This is the choice, I know what I must do

Leave all of life and death to fate…
