An steinern Resten alter G'mäuer,

ruh ich sanft mein Leben aus.

An schmalen Wolken brennt ein Feuer,

das zeugt vom sterbend Sonnenhaus.

Ich blick' ins Land, seh's rot wie Feuer,

das die geh'nde Sonne malt.

Seh' Vögel ziehn ob das Gemäuer

und lausch dem Lied, das leis' erschallt.

Es ruft im kahl' Geäst allein,

ihr traurig Lied die Nachtigall.

Im träumen wag' ich, tauche ein,

in ihr Gesang von meinem Fall.

Die Nachtigall schreit im Geäst,

ihr traurig Lied nun in die Nacht.

Es mich nicht mehr erschaudern lässt,

da meine Seel' nie mehr erwacht.

At stony remnants of old ruins

I gently make peace with my life

A sign from the dying sun's realm

I look at the land, looking red like fire

It calls in leafless trees alone
