47 Ronin Lyrics

A young daimyo defending his honor attacked a powerful courtier

In the imperial court after repeated insults...

As a punishment for this he was sentenced to commit seppuku

Leaving his 47 retainers masterless ronin

Some stories must be told the way we did before

Hidden secrets, lies and treasons

We know your time has come, our vengeance has begun

We're in business, ready and fearless

The ronin held their vengeance for a year

Never showing a sign that they would avenge their lord

For their inaction they were scorned by people

But one night they finally acted…

You did know all our plans

Guards and shields, walls and traps

Everywhere, all around

Think you're safe, hiding out

No matter how long, no matter how far

Your time has come, there's nowhere to run

It won't be here and now

May the gods calm us down

We shall wait a thousand nights

We shall wait... You must die

No matter how long, no matter how far

Your time has come, there's nowhere to run

Hide in the darkness, now you will harvest

All the hate you sowed

Legends will tell our story, but we don't claim that glory

Rather than avenge our daimyo

Our tradition drives our mission

We must avenge our lord

As samurais, we live our lives

Ruled within our code, ruled within our code

We all know the price we must pay, all of us will just obey

Samurais will worship our graves, there's no other way

We fight together, united as one

Purity and honour can't be overcome

After they had extracted their vengeance upon the courtier

They knew that they must atone for their action by giving their own lives

Thus they began their ride to the Sengaku-ji temple

People who had scorned them, begged for their forgiveness

As they had proven their honor and shown valor by slaying the corrupted courtier

Who insulted their master

We fight together, united as one

Purity and honour can't be overcome

There in the Sengaku-ji temple they restored

Their honor and committed seppuku

Now they sleep with their avenged master in the hallowed grounds

Of the Sengaku-ji temple

"More than the cherry blossoms, inviting a wind to blow them away

I am wondering what to do, with the remaining springtime."
