No Stars, No Sun Lyrics

No stars

No sun

The woven dream

The tale unwritten

Wrought from forgotten pasts

The trappings of the scribe like the pickings of the raven

As sentry for the ancient keys both oracle and vessel

As petrichor for bastards newly born

The bones of auld lend coldness to the morn

No stars

No sun

The unborn and abandoned

The generations everfading

A legacy of beggary

At behest of centuries

What I have been in many lives past

Warrior and sage

Bardsong for the taking of the blade

What now remains is but a passing in the stream

Scrounging for these scraps of lore

Seeking their fathers in the songlines

To taste the blood suspended in the mists of time

Untaught and unknowing as primitive night

Mutely the ages steeping

The primordial soul

And left to wander they turn on the other

Wisdom lain for the smashing of the hilts

Hacked and hewn the men unborn

In dying they lay as their lifesblood drained

And I commanded thus

See thee now the heavens

No stars

No sun

I am but disembodied eyes

Out of the night to be

And Into the night begone

In a merging of worlds

For what I knew as was is past

And now in shadows I look and see

No stars

No sun

As I observe from atop the skies

To lochs and lairs below

O'er peaks and glens

And the trifles of men

Who hunt and gather

Bray and snore

Rut and chatter

A people known

Like weeds of sea

And herring bone

Abundant husks

For unfeeling dawn

Uncaring dusk

Forced to exile

Trampled by the fates

No stars

No sun
