SOIL Rises from the Ashes: New Album Brewing for 2027
In a recent no-holds-barred interview with Dales Rock Interviews, SOIL's bassist Tim King laid bare the details of the band's long-awaited return to the studio. After a decade since their last original offering, "Whole," the band has been hard at work crafting a new release that promises to breathe new life into their storied discography. Tim revealed, "We wrote an entire new release last year. We didn’t do any touring; we were in the writing mode in the studio. We went back and forth into Nashville, and we've got a new release completely done. We're gonna be announcing it very soon." The excitement is palpable as SOIL signs a fresh record deal and partners with the Shelter Music Group, setting the stage for a revival that fans have been yearning for.
Tim reflected on the lengthy process that led to this moment, citing the band’s rich legacy as both a blessing and a burden. "With a band like ours, we've got a lot of hits and a lot of history. For older bands like us that have had a legacy, it gets... monotonous when bands just keep releasing material that sounds the same or subpar. If we're gonna do a follow-up, we either have to write songs that are better than the 'Scars' record or at least one hit that’s as good as 'Halo.'" After a year of soul-searching and songwriting, SOIL has finally crafted material that they believe will not only satisfy their loyal fan base but also attract a new generation of listeners.
Tim describes the new SOIL sound as a fusion of classic and contemporary, ensuring that both die-hard fans and newcomers will find something to love. "It's amazing stuff. I say that with absolutely no ego. It's got a classic SOIL sound with modern elements incorporated, and it's just undeniable. We finally have a body of material that we feel is going to blow this band back into the good graces with a new record." With the first single set to drop this year and the full-length album expected in January 2027, the anticipation is building.
The production process was no small feat, as Tim explained, "We went in with a great production team. We spent a lot of time in Nashville recording all this stuff. We basically retooled the entire band — new label, new management, new producers, new music, new everything." The meticulous approach demonstrates SOIL's commitment to ensuring that their return is nothing short of stellar.
As for the writing process, Tim lamented the challenges posed by modern technology. "Back in the day, we always wrote together in a rehearsal room, throwing riffs at each other and feeding off that energy. With the age of computers and the isolation of COVID, we found ourselves uninspired. There’s really no vibe when you’re sending files back and forth." However, by taking a step back and focusing on collaboration in person, SOIL has reignited that spark, leading to the exhilarating new material that fans are about to experience.
