FORBIDDEN's Thrash Comeback: New Blood Steps In for Fall Tour

By Jason •
As Matt Camacho and Chris Kontos take a break, FORBIDDEN unleashes fresh talent to keep the thrash flag flying high.

In a gritty new interview with "Reckless" Rexx Ruger of Pod Scum, FORBIDDEN's axe-slinger Craig Locicero delved into the recent upheaval within the band's ranks, revealing that bassist Matt Camacho and drummer Chris Kontos will be sidelined for their upcoming fall 2026 U.S. tour alongside legends HEATHEN and VOID due to "personal reasons." Enter stage left: the fresh faces of Avery Thurman and Eli Lucas, who are set to unleash their raw energy and talent to fill the void.

Locicero candidly shared, "We've known for a little while, and we've had to contend with this. Both Matt and Chris have real-life commitments that need their attention. But fear not, metalheads; they’re slated to return for our 2027 endeavors. In the meantime, the new guys are fucking phenomenal—hungry and ready to shred!" The fans' reaction to this unexpected change has been surprisingly supportive, with many already recognizing the immense talent of Thurman and Lucas.

"It's a fascinating time in the metal scene," Locicero remarked. "Fans are increasingly understanding that life happens. Just look at TESTAMENT rolling out without Alex Skolnick—sometimes you just have to roll with the punches. But the reality is, everyone wants everything, and that’s not how it works in this world. It’s about managing expectations and embracing the chaos of life, which is something a lot of fans can relate to these days."

As for the new recruits, Locicero couldn't hide his excitement. "We've had multiple rehearsals, and they're on fire. We're diving deep into our catalog—some tracks we haven't touched in decades! Eli Lucas, who nearly snagged the FORBIDDEN gig back in 2011, is now ready to set the stage ablaze. Then there's Avery, a 21-year-old prodigy from BLIND ILLUSION, who has transformed into an electrifying performer with fierce stage presence. It’s a collaboration that feels predestined, with Matt and Chris handpicking their replacements."

Looking ahead to their touring schedule in support of the upcoming self-titled album, Locicero stated confidently, "Yeah, it’s going to be more aggressive and ambitious. But let’s not kid ourselves—there are limits to where we can go and how we can afford to get there. The reality is, being on the road is where we survive. If fans want to see us, they need to support us. It’s a two-way street. We’re committed to giving our all, and if the demand’s there, we’ll meet it, no matter what.">

FORBIDDEN's "Chaos By Design" U.S. tour promises to be a wild ride, and with the new blood in the lineup, it’s sure to be an unforgettable experience. Get ready, thrashers—FORBIDDEN is back and ready to hit hard!
