Morbid Angel Concert Review
I got there 2 hours early because I have this bad habit of waiting till the last minute to get tickets. So I sat there in line with other fellow metal brothers and sisters and had some great conversations. I was wearing my long sleeved Mayhem shirt with army pants and steel toe boots. Then I was one of the first to get in, so right away I took a spot in the front middle. So the stage was just a meter and a half away from me. This is the first show in as long as I can remember where I didn't join the pit or anything. Just stayed infront and enjoyed the musicianship.
The first band came on, DESPISED ICON and here's a funny story involving me and one of their pussy assed singers. So after the first 2 songs, I yelled out KRISIUN! Then the singer turned back to me and told me "come on man, Respect". I along with the guys at the front next to me started laughing our asses off. Then during the next song he was jumping up infront of us to singn and we were just about to push him down but he moved away. We kept booing him and taunting him the whole show. So after they finished their set and startred packing up, I yelled out "KRISIUN!!!!, RESPECT MY ASS!!", then the guy walked back to me and said "hey, lighten up" Laughing . I told him to lighten up and get the fuck out of here. The whole thing was just funny. They aren't really that bad honestly, its just that one guy, he fucked up any potential that band might have had. They drummer and bassist are pretty good.
Finally the REAL show I paid for started., KRISIUN set their shit up and began the slaughter, I didn't stop headbanging for the whole set, it was so fucking intense! They were better then when I saw them a few months ago back in FLA. Their drummer is fucking REDICULIOUS.
Then I got a beer to clear my throat a bit from all that screaming. BEHEMOTH set up their set and it was a pretty impressive set up too. One thing that was funny was looking at Orion (the bassist) doing his sound check. He just stood there with all his face paint on looking lifeless as hell. Nergal's GF was there taking pictures. Holy Fuck she is HOT!!!! Some one next to me told me not to check her out those because Nergal knocked out a guy who did at a previous show. So then they began their set with DEMIGOD. Inferno is insane! The way that guy uses his double bass, works the snare and hits those cymbals is quite a thing to witness for yourself. They also played 2 OLD songs from their Black Metal days and it was good shit too! They played As Above, As Below, Slaves Shall Serve (I almost got crushed when that song came on). Baddass show, great live band, better again then when I first saw them.
Finally the band I had been waiting years to finally see, one of my favorite Death Metal bands of all time, MORBID FUCKING ANGEL. As most of you may know, David Vincent is back. I thought they were gonna be playing stuff from their last 3 albums (FFTTF, GOA and Heretic) which I liked but not as much as their OLD stuff. Well guess what, they DIDN'T. It was a completely old school set. They started with Rapture. After that, I was screaming "MAZE OF TORMENT!!!" and sure enough that was the next one, I fucking went NUTS! Pete Sandoval is officially on my top 5 for best drummers of all time. His setup to begin with was impressive, but then to see this guy perform live, another one of those things that you gotta see for yourself to believe me.
They played pretty much all of Altars of Madness expect for maybe 4 songs (Suffocation, Bleed for the Devil, Damnation and Visions of the Darkside). It was like a dream come true to me. A completely oldschool set, I knew every riff to every songs.
I could easily say that was one of the best performances I have ever seen. I'm really glad it all worked out and I got a chance to make it to this one. If the show is stopping by your town, GO!!!!!! Not something you wanna miss.
P.S. also, make fun of the singer of Despised Icon for me and yell KRISIUN. He will cry Twisted Evil |
