Finland's gothic rockers are back with a 5-track EP sure to turn the rock world on its ear. Title track "Fire Within" is a pedal pushing crimson joyride straight down a denim and leather studded highway. Full of super-catchy hooks, and blazing energy the EP is a sweet taste in anticipation of the band's full-length follow-up to 2003's Crucify My Heart.
Formed in Helsinki, Finland in the fall of 1998 the band recorded their demo Weeper's Aeon, immediately securing a near-rabid following. After releasing their debut full-length, Sweet Desire (Heart, Trust and Respect Records), in late 1999, LULLACRY signed a deal with Spinefarm Records, and in 2001 released their Be My God album. In the vein of Lacuna Coil and Sentenced, Be My God's 11 tracks were fine examples of well-executed modern, gothic-influenced heavy rock, that incorporated a pounding groove with the ever-present beauty of original vocalist Tanya's atmospheric performance. The album was quickly licensed and released through Central Europe and North America by Century Media Records helping them to further expand their growing fanbase. LULLACRY were soon invited to support Germany's uprising power metal stars Edguy on a lengthy full European tour. Finally having the opportunity to perform in front of bigger audiences and packed venues, the band received overwhelming reactions and proved that their material is tailor-made for the stage.
In the spring of 2002, LULLACRY saw the departure of their then-vocalist Tanya due to musical differences, and seizing the opportunity for change the band quickly forged ahead with auditions. After numerous female hopefuls tried-out, they secured a perfect replacement. The new siren ironically shares the same name with her predecessor. The new Tanja has taken LULLACRY to their career's next level. Their third album, Crucify My Heart, easily demonstrated to naysayers and critics that LULLACRY were indeed up to the task of not only outdoing the musical quality of their earlier releases, but also opening new doors towards a more crossover and alternative audience. Crucify My Heart was recorded at Finnvox Studios (Nightwish, Stratovarius) in September 2002 with famed producer Mikko Karmila (Kotipelto, Edguy), and was a massive success worldwide both with audiences and critics. The album also captured more of the U.S. audience and the band performed at 2003's Milwaukee Metal Fest.
In anticipation of their upcoming North American tour with Nightwish, 2004 sees the release of LULLACRY's new EP, Fire Within! With two new tracks, "Fire Within" and "The #1 Rebel", two remakes of classic LULLACRY tracks, as well as a cover version of W.A.S.P.'s "L.O.V.E. Machine", this EP will certainly keep all fans of gothic rock warm until the release of LULLACRY's fourth album, due next winter
