The Gauntlet: Caliban

Caliban Bio

Caliban   Band Members

Andy - vocals

Marc - guitar

Denis - guitar

Engin - bass

Robert - drums

Subgenres:

Caliban was formed in 1997 under the name Never Again. After 6 months of playing together the band recorded their first two songs for a compilation (that never came out). They used the songs to send them to several labels. LIFEFORCE records was the first one that replied to offer the band a record deal. The first selftitled MCD came out in the summer of 1998. To promote the cd, Caliban played many shows all over europe and a few support shows for bands like MORNING AGAIN, EARTH CRISIS and CRO-MAGS. After their european- tour in 1999 Caliban entered the studio to record our first full-length entitled "a small boy and a grey heaven". The cd got very good reviews in many big zines and also tons of smaller hardcore and metal-zines. The band mostly got decribed as a mixture of the Slayer, Poison the Well and Hatebreed, what comes close to what music Caliban are playing.

Short after the release Claus left the band because of personal reasons and was replaced by Thomas. With him on the 2nd guitar, Caliban recorded four songs for a split with their friends from HEAVEN SHALL BURN. The latest CD named "Vent" came out in april 2001( if you want to see pictures of the crazy release-show for "Vent", check the picture section at www.calibanmetal.com). The CD was released by Imperium Records/HOWLING-BULL Records in Japan. Short after the release we got the offer to fly over to Japan to play the Beast-Feast 2001 in the Yokohama Arena and share the stage together with bands like SLAYER, PANTERA, MACHINE HEAD, BIOHAZARD and MORBID ANGEL. The Japan-trip was followed by a US TOUR with BLOODJINN. This trip was awesome, but got stopped by the tragic attacs in NYC.

Anyway, Caliban just took a time off to write new material for their next effort which is sheduled to come out at the end of 2002. All you american kids: See the band live on a US TOUR with A LIFE ONCE LOST, DEAD TO FALL and THE RED CHORD this summer. An appearance on this years Hellfest has just been confirmed. Be prepared...

    Hardcore Annal Sects

Chrissie Hynde tried (unsuccessfully) to convince Motörhead drummer Phil Taylor to join the Pretenders in the late '70s prior to finding eventual member Martin Chambers.
