Subgenres:

Born out of the dingy London back streets, THE ROTTED have risen up and established themselves as one of the UK’s leading extreme metal acts.

Though proud to be spawned in the death and extreme metal scene, the boys’ influences aren't just the ones normally associated with the style of music they create. THE ROTTED’s take on the genre comes from a completely different angle; It’s not the genre or style, it’s the attitude and delivery. As fans of classic rock, hardcore, punk, death, thrash and black metal, musical inspiration for ‘Get Dead Or Die Trying’ can be found in pretty much any decent guitar-based band of the last 30 years.

The line-up reads like the role call at an alcoholics meeting, Ben McCrow on vocals, Tim Carley on guitar, Gian Pyres on lead guitar, Wilson on bass and former IDF tank unit sergeant Nate Gould on drums.

Since starting life in 1997 under the name ‘Gorerotted’, the band have always done things their way and let the music write itself. They do what they want, when they want to do it. Nothing contrived, no gimmicks, they’re music is honest and from the heart.

Having released 3 albums on Metal Blade and Relapse Records the boys felt it was time for fresh blood and a fresh approach. It was decided, partly as a mark of respect to previous members and for the original idea and motives behind ‘Gorerotted’ that the name should change. The band has been known for many years by friends and fans as THE ROTTED so it was right to choose that as the name.

Lyrically things have changed since the start too, another one of the contributing factors to the name change. “I was 18 when I joined this band in 1999. Back then I was into sick and offensive shit for the hell of it, I was a youngster looking to become more involved with the scene, but things have definitely changed now.” Says frontman Ben. “The horrors we’ve experienced from certain parts of our day-to-day existence are either far more fucked up, or far funnier than any of the made up stuff I was singing about on the early releases.” This explains why every lyric on ‘Get Dead Or Die Trying’ is based on events that have happened to the boys over the last few years. “I’ve totally lost the desire to sing about acts of murder that I’ve never committed or horror films I’ve had no part in making or serial killers I’ve never met. Some bands sing about the extreme, but we live it every day!” And it’s this honesty that allows THE ROTTED to connect with their fans all the easier. There’s no line between the stage and the crowd, everyone is at that show for the same reason: To have a good night. They take their music to the people with the goal that everyone –like them- leaves that show with a smile on their face after a bloody good night out!

‘Get Dead Or Die Trying’ a schizophrenic hybrid of extreme metal and punk hardcore violence, riddled with a melancholic darkness and cynical humor that spits in the face of life itself. Recorded at Parlour Sounds Studios with Producers Russ Russell (Napalm Death, The Wildhearts, Dimmu Borgir) and James Dunkley (Crass, Crowbar, Blaze Bailey).
