The Gauntlet: Bloodbath

Bloodbath Bio

Bloodbath   Band Members

Mikael Akerfeldt - Lead Vocals

Anders Nystrom - Guitars / backing vocals

Jonas Renske - Bass / backing vocals

Dan Swano - Drums / backing vocals

Subgenres:

While most retro projects are something bashed out hurriedly in between records, with more time and effort usually spent trying to decide what beer should be swilled than on the songs themselves. Not so with Bloodbath, a premier assembly of talent from the Swedish metal scene (Mikael hails from Opeth; Anders from Katatonia and Diabolical Masquerade; Jonas from Katatonia and October Tide; and guest drummer Dan Swano from seemingly dozens of bands), all of whom must be workaholics based on their inability to rest. At a convenient moment in early 1999 between all of their recording commitments, the four friends convened in Swano's own Sanctuary to record the first three songs under the guise of Bloodbath in the form of the Breeding Death EP you now hold before you. Offered as a testament and tribute to the death metal style so prolific in the States a decade ago, there is an inherent feel to their material which makes the pulse quicken and the adrenaline surge. The band had a great time writing and recording the material, but it's done with such reverence that you're instantly drawn back to the time when it didn't get much better than illegible logos, gory artwork, chunky riffs and guttural growls. These tracks will surely just whet the appetite for even more -- and despite their busy schedules, the members have hinted that a full-length may be forthcoming if the demand should exist. As the band themselves state: "Breeding Death is a tribute to the old-school death metal that reigned the late '80s and onward. BRUTALITY COMES THROUGH SIMPLICITY!!!"

    Hardcore Annal Sects

Prior to Led Zeppelin, a supergroup consisting of Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, Keith Moon, and Jeff Beck was planned, but contractual red tape killed off the band. Although they recorded a few things during a single day recording session in 1966, "Beck's Bolero" is the only one to have seen the light of day.
