SKINBAG, No it doesn't mean ball sack, titties (fake or real), the contents of Jeffrey Dahmer's freezer, or giant pustules of creamy jizz. SKINBAG is a heavy melodic rock band with live sweating humans that are rapidly losing their hearing(what?). SKINBAG was stitched together after Brian and Dave found Jim through an ad placed in the San Diego Reader. After what seemed like forever (actually it was!), they finally found a drummer, Jaron.
Writing, recording, engineering, and playing it all themselves, the band's 6-song C.D. was done at their own studio, SWEATBAG STUDIOS. Many pounds were shed trying to figure out how to get 8-analog tracks to sound as fat as possible.(that's right only 8-tracks!)
SKINBAG writes and plays aggressive yet melodic rock with heavy guitars, thick bass and drum grooves, and melodic, memorable vocal melodies. They write songs that describe and rebel against everyday situations that affect our lives.
The name SKINBAG comes from the idea that we are all the same. All of us have bodies which house our souls. And when you break it down to the lowest common denominator (your skinbag) we are all the same.
1-98 Brian and Dave, frustrated with the direction of the music as well as the musicians they were playing with, set off on a quest to play uncompromising hard hitting music that comes from the soul. A few problems loomed overhead. First, no drummer and no singer. Second, no prospects for either position.
Their solution was to write the material with a drum machine and four-track as much music as possible while looking for other musicians with the same goals. The writing process went quickly and together they demoed over 40 songs without lyrics or melodies.
Meanwhile, placing an ad in the San Diego Reader for both a drummer and singer proved to be an impossible task. Painstakingly they auditioned people for both spots. Finally, Jim stepped into the picture and immediately started writing lyrics to finished demos Brian and Dave gave him.
Jim's input wasn't just lyrics and melodies. He was instantly encouraged to contribute musical ideas as well. As the months wore on, drum auditions continued........
Jaron heard some of the finished demos from a mutual friend and liked what he heard. He provided the extra spark the band needed. He was also asked to contribute musical ideas as well. He helped to re-arrange the material that was already written as well as the new material.
Today, all four members are involved in writing, arranging, recording, and producing the material.
