Sledge emerged from the fires and evoked the soul of rock from its grave and restored it to its glory. The journey began in June 1998 when a head banging group of five decided it was time to resurrect rock from the grave, to begin the ritual they started jamming in a haunted house (an old government school)

True sense of purpose that has been in this band since the very beginning has made their message strong and audiable throughout its entire existence even though it has not been in the main stream.

SLEDGE unleashed the spirit of metal and they shattered and decimated the binding gravestones and released the screaming ghosts of Heavy Metal. SLEDGE understands the language of metal and the hard-hitting emotions of the music and is a band of true followers of heavy metal.After grinding every tooth and nail SLEDGE at last got recognition in the Indian rock circuit after been featured in gigpad.com the major rock portal in India

Sledge is the first band from A.P to be featured in Gigpad, Then followed with an opportunity to open for a Major rock band in India "SHIVA" and at this performance SLEDGE out shined the greater band, This gave them a lot of exposure and a big fan club.

SLEDGE won the Runners-Up award in it first ever rock competition in 1999 at Spring Carnival" Rock Festival and won the Best Rock Band Award in the "Be at It Dude" competition in year 2000 at Wesley College Grounds, Secunderabad SLEDGE was offered to HeadLine the Jamming Rock Fest at Safari Pub, where all the major rock bands from Hyderabad have performed. The next mile stone was to get an invitation to play at " DOMINATION" The death Fest at Razz Rhino ( MUMBAI ) A Small Dream come true. It was an honor to share the stage with some major metal bands.

The major achievement was winning 2nd Place and Best drummer award at the IIT Delhi - BLITZKRIEG 2002. This was the first ever competition SLEDGE took part in the national circuit. Now the band is known in the national rock scene. SLEDGE in its second trip to Delhi won the Runners up at NSIT Delhi, the second competition of the year.

In the first visit to Bangalore, SLEDGE achieved a Great victory at Castrol Garage Rock ( south zone),by winning the best bandI , best guitarist,best drummer and the best bassist awards to qualify for the finals. SLEDGE also won the finals in Great Style in Mumbai with clean sweep of titles, Best Vocalist, Best Drummer, Best Bassist and The first national title.

After winning the national title, "Times Music" offered SLEDGE to record a full length album, the album is released and is available in all leading stores in India. With undeniable aggression, premier musicianship and vicious lyrical firestorm, SLEDGE is conquering the throne of heavy metal in India . Musically, the album is on all-out precision assault, done so with all of the flair and expertise one would expect from such an impressive assembly.

History :

The journey of SLEDGE was not on a smooth but rocky terrain -Potholes (dumb critics), nauseating bumps (pop music), financial crunches and plagued by undeserving arseholes that abandoned them in crucial moments. SLEDGE's first line up was Avinash (vocals), Anjani (guitars), Steven (guitars), Evan (bass) and Charles (drums). These were the first warriors who battled for the revival of rock in Hyderabad.

They kicked ass and raised hell for a year. Then shit happened, just as they started bringing rock back to life, three lost their courage and gave up the battle. Evan, Charles and Steven stabbed SLEDGE in the back and opted for a mundane life. Evan chose love over passion; Charles claimed he was the Son of God!!!??? And Steven chose money and fame, which he thought he couldn't get fighting for the cause. SLEDGE was left with Avinash and Anjani.
For a brief period they thought they were fighting a losing battle. But this was a breed of fighters and not quitters. When the going gets tough, the tough get going and that's Sledge for you in a nutshell. Each challenge made them stronger and more determined.

One Sunday morning when Avinash went to church (a place where he is not usually welcomed), he saw this cool guy playing his riffs on the guitar. Surprisingly this guy walks up to Avinash and says,' how about jamming together.' That's how Avinash met Shadrach.One glorious day Samad, childhood friend of Anjani who was always a motivator and ardent supporter of the band,the guy with a perfect attitude and a clear point of view, knocked the Sledge's door.

Avinash, Anji, Samad and Shadrach started to jam and began to rock to the groove again. At this point they had guitars screeching from heaven and vocals roaring from hell. But SLEDGE desperately needed a drummer, if not a perfect one at least someone who could give them the basic beat. They picked up an amateur called Suman (at this point of time there was no intention to make him a part of the band) but they were shocked to see his determination and burning desire to rock. He is now the backbone and the thumping heart beat of SLEDGE.

Within three weeks of the second coming the band got to playing a rock competition and SLEDGE gave a perfect answer to all those who doubted them and extracted a sweet revenge from those who betrayed them. SLEDGE not only amazed the audience but also won the award for the best heavy metal band in Hyderabad.

Sadly, Samad had to leave the band to pursue his higher education in Medicine. He is still a motivator and supporter of the band.For the moment SLEDGE has settled down with four members .Then came in sunder on the rhythm guitar .. guy with great attitude and stage act but had to leave the band for further studies. Now its karna on rhythm this guy is kicking some ass, talented and with great attitude ........... ( Just praying not to up date this page again )
