The Gauntlet: All Shall Perish Metal News

ALL SHALL PERISH TO TOUR WITH ARSIS AND THE FACELESS; BOOK DEAL IN THE WORKS?

All Shall Perish It takes a steady flow of creative juices to create an album's worth of music, and massive amounts of imagination plus a high humor quotient to stay sane while on the road touring for said album. Oakland, California's melodic hard-/ deathcore metal band ALL SHALL PERISH have certainly proven to themselves and to their fans that they have plenty of all three ingredients necessary for the year's worth of promotion that awaits them.

Flanked by Arsis and The Faceless and ready to hit the road once again in support of their sophomore release, The Price Of Existence, ALL SHALL PERISH bassist Michael Tiner checks in about the new tour & new line-up, the band's hilarious tour blogs (which a fan has brought to the attention of San Francisco's Last Gasp Books), and an unusual use of duct tape:

"The last tour was brutal and amazing at the same time. We played to a lot of insane crowds and sold lots of merchandise, not to mention visiting a lot of new cities we've never played in. We can't wait to get out on the road again. Our video for the song 'Eradication' already debuted on Headbangers Ball. It's a cool time."

Tiner continues:

"Chris 'Topher Malmsteen' Storey brings a fighting Irish, Lucky Charms feel to our stage presence with his drunk ass trying to fight everyone on stage like they are trying to steal his pot o' gold. Hernan Hermida brings more of a subtle ESL performance with him to the stage with his cool flamenco moves and interesting syntax. As far as a book deal goes, [Last Gasp]'d have to give us enough money to float our ridiculous crank habit for life. It's gotten quite outta control... not our blogs, our crank habit! To those turning blue waiting for our next posting, I say this: We don't know how many poop-offs we'll get into on this tour or who among will emerge as champion, but that all depends on how many times we decide to shit in the girls bathroom. This is how we roll. And no, I've never seen any bum fights while living out of the van - only Topher versus Matt over who gets to sleep in the motel comforter on the motel room floor. I'm going to tell you something you may not know: covered in spuzz those things..."

Engineered by Zack Ohren (Light This City, Embrace The End) at Castle Ultimate Studios, The Price Of Existence is close to reaching the 10,000 sales mark since the album's August 8th release date, and Metal Maniacs has lauded the band for their "speedy, wide-eyed NYDM brutality, murderous breakdowns, subterranean bass meanderings, and feverish melodic swells."

ALL SHALL PERISH knows what it's like to sacrifice their lives for success. Hitting the road around holiday time will mean drummer Matt Kuykendall will miss the latter half of the semester at San Francisco State University, where he's majoring in Radio & Television Broadcasting. Rhythm guitarist Ben Orum will spend precious time away from his vintage Star Wars action figure collection (rumor has it that he actually converses with them in character!), but even worse, he'll miss out on his yearly ritual of volunteering to serve Thanksgiving dinner to the homeless.

Dedicated, funny, socially conscious... these guys are the total package. So what about this unusual use of duct tape? Tiner summarizes:

"Umm yes... it also involves Mexican food, but it's not what you think. After eating some Mexican food in Mexicali, a bad case of pee-butt overtook my body. Since this was before we played, we had to make some way to keep the pee-butt from overtaking the crowd and all we had was a roll of duct tape, so... you guessed it!... duct tape speedo in the house! Maaan, that sucked to take off."

Former Jane's Addiction/Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Dave Navarro was asked to take the place of Izzy Stradlin in Guns N' Roses after Stradlin deserted G N' R in the middle of the band's 1991 tour.
