Release Of New Nightwish DVD Will Not Be Delayed In Finland
As previously reported, Nuclear Blast has set June 2nd as the release date for NIGHTWISH End Of An Era CD/DVD. The release of the DVD in the band's native Finland was in some jeopardy, however, following threats of legal action issued by former vocalist Tarja Turunen and her manager/husband Marcel Cabuli. In an interview with BW&BK on April 26th, Nightwish founder/keboardist Tuomas Holopainen revealed that all legal squabbling has been cleared up and that the release for Finland will be on schedule."I don't really know what happened, but there were so many different problems between the other party and Nightwish that I washed my hands of the whole thing and concentrated on writing new songs," Holopainen says of the situation. "I couldn't take it anymore. But, I spoke to our manager on Sunday (April 23rd) and he said all the problems are solved and that they will sign the agreement, so the DVD will be out in Finland and the rest of Europe as scheduled."
And, contrary to rumours that have suggested the band has found a replacement for Turunen, Holopainen and his bandmates are nowhere near the end of their search.
"There have been dozens of rumours about who the new singer will be, and I can understand that because it's only natural that people are interested. Liv Kristine (Leaves' Eyes vocalist) was one really strong candidate according to the press but there was absolutely no truth to that. I can be really honest with you and say that we haven't decided anything. Since we put the open application up on our website I've listened to more that 450 demos, and there are 15 to 20 new ones coming each day. The fact is that we're not in any kind of hurry, so personally I'm just hoping we'll find the new singer by the end of the year."
"The last thing we're looking for is a cheap rip-off of Tarja," Holopainen adds. "She was perfect for Nightwish as she was, and I'm pretty sure we will take some radical steps when it comes to the new voice of Nightwish. The music is going to stay pretty much the same, but there no use in trying to do what Tarja did because she did it so perfectly. I think it's necessary for us to take a brave step somewhere else and do things a different way. But, I haven't built an exact profile in my head as to what the new singer should sound like yet."
Watch for the full interview with Holopainen in BW&BK #97.
As previously reported, the confirmed tracklist for End Of An Era is: 'Dark Chest Of Wonders', 'Planet Hell', 'Ever Dream', 'Kinslayer', 'Phantom Of The Opera', 'The Siren', 'Sleeping Sun', 'High Hopes', 'Bless The Child', 'Wishmaster', 'Slaying The Dreamer', 'Kuolema tekee taiteilijan', 'Nemo', 'Ghost Love Score', 'Stone People', 'Creek Mary's Blood', 'Over The Hills And Far Away', 'Wish I Had An Angel'.
In addition to this the DVD is going to include a slideshow of pics from the Hartwall Show (October 21, 2005 at the Hartwall arena in Helsinki, Finland) and a 55 minute long documentary, A Day Before Tomorrow, which follows the band during the last 15 days before the Hartwall Show. The documentary is edited by Timo Halo who edited and directed also the From Wishes To Eternity - Deleted Scenes and End Of Innocence movies.
