The Gauntlet: Hammerfall Metal News

Hammerfall Lay Down Drums

Hammerfall Hammerfall posted the following studio update:

"Well, whaddaya know, some of the drum patterns laid out for Howlin With The Pac late last night werent good enough. Needless to say, this took a little while to fix, but by one oclock the song was finished. This one really benefitted from the changes, though, so it was definitely worth it. Without wasting any time, we immediately (and when I say immediately, I mean right after lunch, hehe) started in on Shadow Empire. A fast one with a lot of stuff and a heavy middle part before going back to the double bass drums towards the end, this is another one of my early favourites. Stefan has had a hand in composing this track, too, but more on that later on. Anders kept pounding the drums under Charlies demanding whip an hour before dinner.
Then came quick reliving of glories past, as they aired Swedens World Championship-winning game against the Sovjet Union from 1991. Hopefully, this evenings game against the Russians will have a similar outcome. Or, better yet, the entire tournament. But lets not get ahead of ourselves here. We left the game after the first period to continue recording like Anders said, what is more important, ice-hockey or music? Its a close one, but music is why were here, so ;-)

Stefans instrumental track Reign Of The Hammer (yes, we managed to sneak one in this time as well!) had been saved for last, in part because it was the shortest and easiest but also because we hadnt rehearsed it before recording it. Straight-forward and melodic is a good way of describing this track. Anders played beautifully and finished the song in no-time, allowing us to go back to watching the game, which now had been overtaken by Sweden 3-2, The Russians fought back hard and managed to equalize on a weird bouncing puck. A draw meant that both teams qualified for the quarter finals, though. We went on to tear down the drums and clean up a little in the drum room, and then it was off to bed for me. I have a three-hour drive to do in the morning, to catch the ferry at ten oclock."
