The Gauntlet: DevilDriver Metal News

Devildriver Frontman Issues Update

DevilDriver DEVILDRIVER frontman Dez Fafara has issued the following update:

"Been home for about a week now. It's good to have alittle time off.

"We had a killer time in Europe playing festivals. I'd like to thank everyone who came out to support DEVILDRIVER!

"Here's what's going on with us: We just wrapped up the video for 'Not All Who Wander Are Lost', directed by Nathen 'Karma' Cox. You're gonna love what this MTV award-winning director has done! Keep tuned here and we will let you know when the first airing will be.

"As you all know, the new music comes out here in the USA on July 31st. Buy your copy at Hot Topic and get a bonus track 'Damning the Heavens' that WON'T be sold anywhere else! 'The Last Kind Words' is out in Europe already and DEVILDRIVER has charted both in Germany and the U.K. Thank you to our record company Roadrunner for all their hard work on DEVILDRIVER's behalf!

"DEVILDRIVER will be having a listening party in L.A. on July 27th at On the Rocks above the Roxy on Sunset. The party will be from 7 to 11 p.m. From 7 to 8:30 will be 'open bar' for the press only. At 8 we will open it up to the first 150 people in line, so you can come in listen to the record and have a drink with us. If you live in or around L.A., get there early and get ready to party!

Thanks to Alan at ESP, who will be giving away a guitar that night, and to the Rainbow, who will be catering the party with their KILLER food!

"In mid-August we will be doing a short warm-up run for our first major headline shows in Europe that will begin around mid-September. Look for us to be doing 12 dates throughout California, Arizona and Texas."

In a recent interview with MTV.com, Fafara stated about the group's new CD, "The 'last kind words' could be 'f--- you' before complete annihilation. For me, this album is about being motivated to stand up to the punishment of being a human and to have the character in you to go on when all people want to do is hold you down."

"Lyrically, it's dark and foreboding," Fafara added. "But it's gonna give you inspiration to go through this earthly experience and keep kicking."

"I think we knew we had to reach within ourselves as a team and pull something out that was really different. Everyone totally put aside their egos and stepped up to the plate to do what needed to be done. In America right now, there's so much of that sing-songy metal going on, so we knew if we did something totally balls-out it was going to be well-received."
