VADER Mainman Peter Wiwczarek - "Speed Isn't The Only Point"

BW&BK spoke to VADER vocalist/guitarist Peter Wiwczarek recently about a number of topics including their new album, Impressions In Blood, was officially released in Europe today and in North America (tomorrow - September 5th) via Regain/Candlelight. A few excerpts from the chat follow:
BW&BK: Vader manage to write memorable songs, but they fill ‘em up with a vibe, an atmosphere, that most death metal bands couldn't even imagine.
Wiwczarek: "Speed was a key word for Vader, but speed isn't the only point. We create music and we want it to be art. We're not a noisy grindcore band or something, putting the attention just on speed. Speed is part of it and it's important, but having the atmosphere, the brutality and the melody, this is what everybody can find in Vader. It's not a problem to record just a fast album. But we don't want to make the fans yawn after listening to three or four songs. That's why between listening to really fast beats on this album you can always find something different. A little bit slower, catchier, or groovier. This makes the album as a whole more interesting. It's like emotions. I know I keep talking about emotions, but emotions in our life are different. They're not the same. I couldn't hate, be angry all the time. But I couldn't be a clown, be laughing all the time either. Emotions are different and we try to do the same with the music."
BW&BK: Wiwczarek admits that any changes fans may have noticed over the past few releases have been conscious, the band even going so far as to speed it up a bit when the Vader legions started getting antsy at the (slightly) slower tempos heard on releases like The Beast.
Wiwczarek: "After Litany, and especially on The Beast, we tried to avoid the regular way. So of course it was still Vader, but we tried to do something different. We slowed down a bit, put a bit more melody in there. But the fans know, even those who tried to say we were too slow after The Beast, so with The Art Of War we went back to the regular Vader way. But it doesn't mean we're just going to play fast. This is a fast album, but we can not say that this is just a fast album; there are so many different things. It's a new face on old Vader (laughs). What can I say?"
BW&BK's chat with Vader will be featured in our upcoming massive 100th Anniversary issue - out in October!
