The Gauntlet: Throwdown Metal News

Throwdown To Record Two Cover Songs

Throwdown Throwdown recently recorded two cover songs with producer Mudrock (Godsmack, Avenged Sevenfold), one of which will appear on the upcoming Trustkill Records compilation release, due out later this year. On working with Mudrock, Throwdown guitarist Matt Mentley states, "I've known Mudrock for awhile, we met through a mutual friend, and I have always wanted to work with him. The whole experience was amazing, because he had such great ideas, and was able to make the songs sound like Throwdown even though they were covers." The first of the two songs is a cover of the Misfits song "London Dungon," and the second is a cover of Crowbar's "Planets Collide." Commenting on the song choices, Mentley says, "The whole band is a huge fan of Crowbar, and this song especially is a slower with a melody, different from what we normally do, which is what we were aiming for. The Misfits cover was just for fun, an obvious choice and again a band favorite."

Early-80’s pop metal band Alcatrazz proved to be a stepping stone for 2 guitarists who went on to greater success after leaving the band – Yngwie Malmsteen and Steve Vai.
