The Gauntlet: Stone Sour Metal News

STONE SOUR'S SILLYWORLD VIDEO DEBUTS ON MTV2 AND FUSE

Stone Sour Grammy-nominated Stone Sour has just unleashed their latest video for the hit single “Sillyworld,” from the band’s latest RIAA gold-certified Roadrunner Records release, Come What(ever) May. Directed by David Brooks for Factory Features and shot on Jan 9th, 2007, “Sillyworld” is chock full of political commentary. The video will start spinning on MTV2 and Fuse, among other stations, this week.

Aesthetically, “Sillyworld” showcases Stone Sour playing to a shifting background of classic stencil images, as frontman Corey Taylor sings the lyrics “I can’t take your Silly World no more.” The simple, two-toned images and muted colors coupled with the band’s stripped-down wardrobe represent a visual display of the meaning behind the song: Taylor’s feelings on corporations, governments, and icons. Images range from government leaders past and present (including a certain Chinese dictator), to major corporate logos (distinct pair of golden arches) to icons of American life (think Orlando’s favorite mascot). The end result is intended to evoke a strong reaction in the viewer - whether it is one of protest, reflection, anger, disagreement or awakening. As long as a thought process is inspired, the message has been conveyed.

Says Taylor, “People forget how powerful the context of words are. Ideals are not just ways to sell hamburgers and designer jeans. They are things to strive toward. Unfortunately, America seems content on turning certain ideas into fast food. But this song brings out a hope that maybe someday we can get some of that back.”

Dissent toward idolatry is nothing new for Stone Sour. “Sillyworld” continues the theme the band began with the video for the smash single “Through Glass” last summer which exposes America’s obsession with Hollywood.

Stone Sour is set to embark on a North American tour on March 23. For tour dates, please visit www.stonesour.com.

The New Jersey punk trio Buzzkill was originally known as Butthead when they formed in 1990, but had to change their name two years later when MTV's Beavis & Butthead became a massive success. Ironically, MTV also had a grunge/alt-metal show called Buzzkill, which aired during the mid-'90s.
