As previously reported on The Gauntlet, Stone Sour rocked the Top 200 Albums Chart this week, debuting at at the lofty position of #4 with their first studio album in over four years, Come What(ever) May. Proclaimed by Blender Magazine as an album that "makes anger and angst seem almost fun," Come What(ever) May moved 80,786 units its first week out, triple what their Gold-selling debut album scanned its first week. Come What(ever) May also out-scanned the first week numbers of current major acts such as Gnarls Barkley, Fall Out Boy, Avenged Sevenfold and others. Additionally, this week, the video for the first single, "Through Glass," was added into rotation at VH1. On the radio front, the single has been surging to the top of the charts, currently #2 on the Mainstream Rock chart, top 3 on the Rock and Active Rock charts and in the top ten on the Modern Rock chart. The band kicked off its stint on The Family Values tour last week, performing alongside rock veterans Korn, The Deftones, Flyleaf and Dir En Grey. The tour will crisscross the nation through late September.
Stone Sour is well on its way to the forefront of rock music. "In a better America, Stone Sour would be the face of American Rock," says Alternative Press Magazine. Thanks to this flurry of activity - radio, video, press and touring - Stone Sour is several steps closer to fulfilling such a prophecy. Lead vocalist, Corey Taylor is one of the most recognized figures in rock, thanks to his dual role as the frontman for Stone Sour and the Grammy-Winning Slipknot, a multi-platinum act in its own right. Also comprised of guitarist James Root, who does double duty in Slipknot, bassist Shawn Economaki, guitarist Josh Rand and new drummer Roy Mayorga, Stone Sour is armed with an album that expands beyond the palette of its predecessor, the band's Gold-Certified self-titled debut. "Either way you slice it, [Come What(ever) May] is an intense, taut piece of work where every song could be a single," says Billboard. The album, produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver), is an exercise in dynamics. It's tight, crisp, and full of rowdy rockers and melodic numbers.
"This second time around, the quintet has even more to offer, delivering a broader-reaching and better-crafted set of mainstream-friendly, melodic hard rock," proclaimed Revolver. Come What(ever) May features songs such as the moving ballad "Zzyzx Rd.", the fierce "30/30-150" and the first single, "Through Glass" which showcases Stone Sour's diverse range of emotions with its powerful lyrics and forceful delivery.
