The Gauntlet: Stone Sour Metal News

Corey Taylor Discusses New Stone Sour Album

Stone Sour Corey Taylor recently spoke to MTV about the brand new Stone Sour album, Come What(ever) May (released July 31st).

"Everything came out sounding above and beyond the first record, and I loved that record," Taylor said. "It's a bigger step away from SLIPKNOT and more in the heart of why we do STONE SOUR. Every song is different and yet each has continuity. These days everybody sounds like one-note-wonders, and we're putting the diversity back in. There's nothing that says you can't have different songs and still be the same band, but most people are just too chickenshit to do it."

Regarding the album's first single, "30/30-150", (which features drumming by GODSMACK's Shannon Larkin), Corey said, "It's about never forgetting where you came from, who you are and why you do this. Everybody has a reason for what they do in life, especially if you love what you do. So this is just about the cement that holds those beliefs in place."

When confronted with the fact that STONE SOUR are bound to get flack from SLIPKNOT fans regarding the overall direction of the new STONE SOUR album, Taylor said, "You know what? I don't give a fuck. At the end of the day I'm totally proud of what we've done. The first time I heard this album mixed and everything I almost started crying. It was the first time in a long time that the music on record sounded close to the music I heard in my head. This album blows away the first one, and if nobody listens to it, I'll still listen to it, because it's awesome."

Along the lines of Billy Corgan's 1999 collaboration with Mike Garson on the score for the religious horror film Stigmata, the following year Korn's Jonathan Davis collaborated with composer Richard Gibbs on the score for the film adaptation of Anne Rices's novel Queen of the Damned.
