The Gauntlet: Metallica Metal News

Metallica: 'Film Proved We Were Egomaniacs'

Metallica (2008) Metallica stars Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield are pleased they starred in 2004 "rockumentary" Some Kind Of Monster - because it forced them to quit arguing with each other.

The rockers took part in the film which documented their fall out over their 2003 album St. Anger and almost saw them split. And Hetfield admits the film opened his eyes to his flaws - and made him vow to be less demanding.

He says, "We were frigging egomaniacs. We all had different character defects and it was good to see them on screen. I think it was more educational for us than for our fans. It was very therapeutic for us to put that out there."

"your little white trash, conformist brains will have to deal." lol i think you just described the average metallica fan pretty accurately

I love Metallica, if any of you losers ever make a number one, or become the biggest band in the world then talk, until then your little white trash, conformist brains will have to deal. BTW is it not egomaniacal to call out the biggest metal band that has ever walked the earth. Oh, I forgot that short hair and well thought out music was egomaniacal. Exscuse me, I play in a band, if I ever see any of you sad little emo kids on my fan list, your out. I hate people that bash musicians like musicians owe them something. Fools, bash the government or FISA, or or the drug dealer down the street, not the people that create art for your enjoyment.

Really!?! Egomaniacs!?! Thanx Captain Obvious. What will you realize next? Perhaps that you lost your edge in '92 and need to find it before the next Metallica album is "Metallica Goes Country"! You were once one of my heroes James, now I you make me want to slit my wrists every time you open your mouth. Metallica started as the poor, angry white boys next door. Now they are just rich, pathetic old white men hidden behind their mansion doors. You sirs have become the antithesis of what you started as. My heroes are dead and somewhere Cliff is thanking heaven he is dead.

"we were egomaniacs". I didn't see any evidence of that pertaining to Kirk. Who was far and away the highlight of the film.

well i hate the fact that the new album is going to suck, seeing as how james' voice is so "loady" if you will, and that the two songs ove heard are slower than they should be, but i do agree that they were egomaniacs.
  Awwwww.....the wisdom... - 2008-08-22 19:33:31
...has seemingly not yet returned to the Metallica camp. If it had, James would have a beer and take CONTROL of the creative process once again. Furthermore, Lars needs to quit camping out on the snare drum. There are OTHER drums on his kit that he used to hit quite frequently. I understand that he's too old and tired to throw some fire on the kicks, but there is no doubt that he's grown fucking lazy in his rock stardom.

I hope metallica continues to point out how big of cunts they have become so I can save my breath... er, finger energy.

Egomaniacs indeed.

England's 1988 Castle Donnington Monsters of Rock festival featured one of the most enticing heavy metal lineups ever — Guns N' Roses, Megadeth, David Lee Roth, Kiss, and headlined by Iron Maiden (the show holds an attendance record of over 100,000).
