The Shane And Amy Bugbee Interview On Their Year On The Road

The Gauntlet recently caught up with writers and documentarians Shane and Amy Bugbee. The avid metalheads recently released a book titled "The Suffering And Celebration Of Life In America" along with a documentary of their journey across the country over a year.

During the year long trip, they interviewed Possessed's Jeff Becerra, Gene Hoglan, Ian Mackaye, Averse Sefira and many other people from the American underground. You can check out the audio interview below.

When asked what sparked the idea, Amy stated "It came up as a way to survive a series of hard times and show the world what we felt was really going on in America. The news was still calling the economy booming when it was anything but. But more than that, we had just been shunned, yes SHUNNED, and run out of a small town in Minnesota that we'd spent the last two years in putting down roots, taking care of my sick father, and creating a flourishing soda pop business."

Shane added "I had also given up. I had given up on my predatory capitalist ways. Los Angeles was all predator and prey, and that's fine. At the same time, I was starting to realize it was that brand of capitalism that put me in a cage. Prior to the shunning, I thought capitalism was the great equalizer, the thing that could lift me from my white trash upbringing, but of course that's how the system paints it when in reality, modern capitalism is another of the control mechanisms our society has."

Check out the entire interview below and pick up "The Suffering And Celebration Of Life In America" now. Do buy the book people. It isn't a book for metal fans, but metal fans will enjoy it and it has loadsmetal in it. It is a book that Americans SHOULD read. No BS, no safety net, no filter, this book is the new apple pie.
