The Gauntlet: Megadeth Metal News

Dave Mustaine Honored With Tae Kwon Do Title

Megadeth Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has become an unlikely goodwill ambassador for the World Tae Kwon Do Foundation. The heavy rocker, who is an avid fan of the martial art, was given the title at the WTF's annual gala in Seoul, South Korea over the weekend.

The thrilled star, who is a Tae Kwon Do black belt, says, "I cannot begin to explain what this means to me. Tae Kwon Do is a great discipline. For me, it was one of the things that changed my life. It helped me to eliminate a bad lifestyle of drug and alcoholism. It helped me to believe inside of myself and find the strength inside of myself that I never knew that I possessed."

Mustaine maintains the martial art helped him combat a severe nerve injury to his left arm, which, in turn, led to him reforming Megadeth in 2004.

It was a big weekend for Mustaine and Megadeth in Seoul - on Sunday, the band performed at the Olympic Hall in Olympic Park.

Metallica's first album was originally called Metal Up Your Ass. When record distributors refused to release an album with an "obscene" title, the title was changed to Kill 'Em All in reference to the distributors.
