The Gauntlet: Tool Metal News

Maynard Keenan Takes Time off From Tool to Record New A Perfect Circle Album

Tool Maynard James Keenan planned to start working on the next Tool album this summer, after A Perfect Circle wrapped up touring to promote their second album, "Thirteenth Step". But Keenan wanted to release A PERFECT CIRCLE's politically flavored album "eMOTIVe" in time for this year's presidential election, so he told Launch he asked his TOOL mates for special dispensation. "They understood this was an important thing to do, and so they gave me a, a hall pass for a few months," he explained. "We came off the road in, I think, June, and we started at the end of June, and just finished up, basically, at the beginning of September."

"eMOTIVe" — which is due out November 2 features two new A Perfect Circle tracks, along with covers of protest and inspirational songs such as JOHN LENNON's "Imagine", DEPECHE MODE's "People Are People", NICK LOWE's "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love And Understanding", and MARVIN GAYE's "What's Going On", as well as lesser-known punk rock tracks such as FEAR's "Let's Have A War" and CRUCIFIX's "Not So Quiet On The Western Front".

Dates bands in town

    Hardcore Annal Sects

Kurt Cobain originally called his group Skid Row, unaware of the '80s hair-metal band (whose music Cobain would later wipe off the charts) that used the name already. Ironically, after settling on Nirvana and achieving worldwide success, the group was sued by the '60s psychedelic outfit with the same name. Fortunately, the bands settled the dispute amicably, finding enough Nirvana to share between them.
