Scum of the Earth Interview

Erin Fox: Riggs, man it's killer to speak with you, how is everything going with Scum Of The Earth?

Riggs (Scum Of The Earth): Good, really good.

E: You've put together a really good album, I really enjoyed it.

R: Well, thank you, sir. Much appreciated.

E: So what is going on with the band right now?

R: Ah man, we're just trying to get it all together, get a manager, find a booking agent or join a tour, go on tour again, whichever comes first.

E: How long did it take you to record 'Blah-Blah-Blah. Love Songs For The New Millennium?'

R: About a month.

E: Wow, that's awesome!

R: I mean, it took like three weeks to actually record everything and then just tweaking it.

E: What type of gear did you use to record the album? Did you experiment with different gear or use the same equipment for the whole recording?

R: Uh, actually the same stuff al the way through, we had different guitars.

E: There were a lot of different tunings on the record?

R: Yeah there's probably like six different tunings on there. I think we used different amps. We used one of the Bogners, a Diesel and the old Marshall that Mikey had, Tempesta, it was a modified Marshall head.

E: What types of guitars did you use? Can you tell us about the blood filled guitar?

R: I always use that one.

E: Is that your favorite axe?

R: Yeah, that one sounds really good. That one's like really clean, tight sounding.

E: So what's your baby on the album? Which song would you pick as your favorite?

R: Uh well, I never thought about it until right now. I don't know I like that Pornstar Champion. I like that and I like Altargirl13.

E: In regard to the video that you made for the first single 'Get Your Dead On", is that something that is on MTV right now, is that something that is easy for fans to view?

R: Nah, that's something that we're trying to get on MTV and not having a very easy time, a good time. We're not having good luck getting it on there.

E: Are you planning to release this on a DVD in the future so that fans will have easy access to it?

R: Actually one of the guys that was in the video owns that magazine, Heavy Metal Magazine, and he wanted to put like the full length version, like the long version of it on a DVD that comes with the magazine when you buy it. I don't know when they were planning on doing that, that was just something I heard.

E: Have you always been into comics and that kind of thing?

R: Eh, not so much comic books, just mainly like, movies.

E: What types of dark movies do you like?

R: I like all kinds of movies, there's very few movies I don't like.

E: So how did the deal with Eclipse come about, I've heard the stories of the fan on the Internet, why did you choose to work with Eclipse?

R: That's a question I ask myself a lot these days. They, I dunno, they seemed to be super into it, like the most into it, just super gung-ho about it and it seemed like they would focus all of their attention on this and really make it something cool, but we seem to be the little fish in the big pond.

E: I know you're getting a lot of good press in regard to the album, are you receiving a lot of radio airplay as well?

R: It's actually doing good on the radio, I mean, I don't think it's even sent to just the main stations, you know, the mainstream radio, I guess. We just get like the FMQB and the CMJ and all that and it's like in the top 10 in all of those. So I think they're gonna move over to mainstream radio and there's a lot of radio stations right now that just play it and have taken it upon themselves, it's pretty cool.

E: What can we expect as far as touring for the record goes?

R: Yeah, we're hopin' we can get something going by January. That is our goal.

E: Are you planning on going out on your own or in support of a larger act?

R: Nah, well just see what happens, we're not that picky. Just whatever seems the best, you know? Like, we could go and open up for some big band and that would be cool and we could go out and do something on our own and that would be cool. Anyway we can just get out there and start making people aware of this. Just letting people know that we're doing it, that seems to be the hardest thing.
