James Randi Shares Stories From His Time On Tour With Alice Cooper

James Randi (1973) In the early 70's, one of the greatest rock shows ever set out on their largest tour. The band was Alice Cooper, and the tour was the famed Billion Dollar Babies Tour that took the band to South America, Europe and North America. Alice Cooper had just toppled The Beatles from the Billboard Music Charts and their maniacal fans rivaled those of the fab four.

The Gauntlet recently spoke with James Randi, who now heads the James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF). Before he was investigating supposed paranormal powers, he was executing Alice Cooper nightly on stage. "I was hired by very strange means" stated James Randi. "I wasn't following the rock music field and had never heard of Alice Cooper. One afternoon I was on 34th Street at a magic shop. I was hanging out with some other magicians and we were chatting about various things. The proprietor answers the phone and turned to us with his hand over the mouthpiece. He asked if any of us wanted to work for a rock star named Alice Cooper. I said 'Sure, tell him I want $100 to go talk to him.' I thought that was the end of that and began talking to my friends again."

ALICE COOPER Will release "Welcome 2 My Nightmare" on September 13 via Universal Music. There is an array of collaborators on the new album, including original Alice Cooper members Denis Dunaway, Michael Bruce and Neal Smith on 3 tracks.
