The enduring giant of the summer season, Big Day Out is bursting at the seams in 2011. The festival has gone all out on a bombastic bill for the five Australian shows over January and February, with plenty to reel in the dance fans. To top it off, in 2011 the almighty Boiler Room is presented by inthemix!
Experimental metallers Tool have been announced as headliner alongside German extremists Rammstein, making for a heavy-duty mainstage. Meanwhile, on the electronic and hip hop front, there's no shortage of marquee names. After blitzing Creamfields in May, The Bloody Beetroots will fire up the Death Crew 77 live show again for more madness. True to our hopes, LCD Soundsystem's ‘last-ever' tour is looping back here for Big Day Out, while Lupe Fiasco, Crystal Castles and Booka Shade will remind us of their festival-rocking powers.
Also back for the summer is hip hop renegade M.I.A., who has indeed been missing in action from these parts for several years. Fans can also rejoice at the return of Pnau to the live stage, while the prospect of Primal Scream performing Screamadelica live in full is once-in-a-lifetime stuff. There's plenty more to marvel at, so cast your eyes to the list below.
Without further ado, the 2011 Big Day Out line-up looks like this.
