Fear factory kick off U.S. tour

Decibel Magazine, who featured FEAR FACTORY on the cover of their March issue, are hosting a special "Making of Fear Campaign” documentary that premieres today at the magazine's YouTube channel (http://www.decibelmagazine.com/Content.aspx?ncid=362771). Compiled by Christopher O'Coin, the behind the scenes footage offers candid, on-location interviews with members of the band, directors Ian McFarland and Mike Pecci, and still photographer Heather McGrath among others. Director Ian McFarland comments, ”making the video for FEAR FACTORY's 'Fear Campaign' was definitely a very large undertaking. But when we sit back and watch the final piece, it's a lot of fun to see the hard work of two separate crews working on opposite sides of the country pull it off together."
"Fear Campaign” was filmed on location in Los Angeles with post-production completed in Boston. For the video team it was a smooth process that required hours of intense commitment. Mike Pecci notes, "shooting in Los Angeles was surprisingly easy largely due to our co-producer Ryan Kohler from Revv Pictures. Everything seemed to move like clockwork with him. This was our first time shooting with professionally trained animals and honestly, those dogs (Bullet and Brownie) were better trained than most actors! They were absolutely amazing to work with.”
In addition to live filming, "Fear Campaign" features a photographic montage all courtesy of Boston-based photographer Heather McGrath. Pecci recalls, "when Burton first approached us with the idea to a montage video we really wanted to come up with a new look that separated it from the political ones of the 90's. We love those old videos, but felt that a video that represented the return of FEAR FACTORY needed to be something new, fresh, and in your face." Continues McFarland, "we eventually came up with the idea of shooting part of Burton's performance as photographs and animating them in a "flip book" technique that would help with the transition into the montages throughout the video. This idea, however, required us to take over 28,000 photos over a very short amount of time. We were literally shooting right up to the last minute."
