The Gauntlet: Lordi Metal News

LORDI, world renowned monsters of rock, ready to invade OZZFEST 2007

Lordi Finland’s monster rock n’ roll band LORDI have been selected as one of the mainstage acts for OZZFEST 2007, alongside mainstage headliners Ozzy Osbourne and Lamb of God.

The band - who released a special 2CD/DVD version of The Arockalypse (with bonus tracks/videos) this week via THE END RECORDS – are excited to be on this much-anticipated annual tour across North America, referred to this year as ‘FreeFest’ because all tickets to the event are free.

“It is a great honour for us to be on OZZFEST and obviously it is gonna be a great opportunity for us to show the people in the U.S. what we can do…or what they think we can do. [laughs]," comments Mr. Lordi about the opening slot on the mainstage that starts July 12th, 2007 in Seattle, WA. "My best friend is a huge Ozzy fan he’s really jealous of the whole thing. I’m gonna try and remember to pick him up an OZZFEST t-shirt when we return to Finland. For us the idea of playing OZZFEST is still hard to believe. I’ll believe it when we’re there.”

Confirmed bands performing on the second stage includes Hatebreed (second stage headliner), Mondo Generator, Ankla, Circus Diablo and Nile.

The OzzFest 2007 tour dates are:

Jul. 12 - White River Amphitheatre, Seattle, WA

LORDI starts their inaugural 'monster invasion' of North America which will start April 20th, 2007 in Anaheim, California at House of Blues and end with a two-night stint at the Bamboozle music festival in East Rutherford, New Jersey on May 5th and 6th, 2007.

About touring North America for the first time, Mr. Lordi says, "Yeah of course. That’s goes without saying. I’m really anxious to see how the audiences are gonna react to us. From our point of view touring the States is like ‘coming home.’ I know it sounds weird for a Finnish band to say that but we are often described as the ‘most American band’ in Finland. [laughs] You see all of our influences, mostly musical and visual, come from the States, so… we’re keeping our fingers crossed."

The story line of ex-Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider's 1998 horror movie, Strangeland, was based on the track "Horror Teria (The Beginning)," off Twisted Sister's 1984 release Stay Hungry.
