The Gauntlet: Gojira Metal News

Gojira debuts new video

Gojira Gojira debut “Vacuity,” the first video from their forthcoming album The Way of All Flesh (Oct. 14, Prosthetic), today via MySpace (both on the main home page and on the band’s page itself at: http://www.myspace.com/gojira). Directed by indie French filmmakers Julien Mokrani and Samuel Bodin and produced by Six Pieds Sur Terre / Gabriel Editions, the video’s muted color palette and storyline is a visual nod to the overarching concept of The Way of All Flesh.

As 2005’s From Mars To Sirius focused on environmental issues so does the new album, albeit with a more urgent tone, “… we feel concerned about what is going to happen to humanity – not just planet Earth but also the destiny of the human race,” singer/guitarist Joe Duplantier explained to Revolver over the summer. While speaking with MTV News’ Chris Harris, he elaborated on the themes behind the new release, “…it's about death itself. It's also about the immortality of the soul. That's the main subject for us. Since we started to play and release albums, we've always talked about the same thing: the soul.”

Early reviews of the album point to a release that’s poised to expose Gojira to those outside of the metal and underground worlds. Decibel Magazine referred to The Way of All Flesh as “genre-smashing, apocalypse-mongering metal,” Outburn gave it a perfect “10” and Brooklyn Vegan said of the record, “The Way Of All Flesh is the thundering soundtrack of the vastly underrated Gojira reaching the pinnacle”
