Top 10 Metal Bands With Names Taken From JRR Tolkien Characters

We geeked out on this one. This list was more of an undertaking than expected. Every damn black metal band out there sounds like it was taken from Middle Earth and it seems like there is a band for every character in the writings of JRR Tolkien. But we searched from the deep seas of Ekkaia to the highest mountains of Mordor and have this weeks top 10 list. Remember, this is just bands derived from characters, not locations. That will be another geeked out list.

Agarwaen
Nargothrond Túrin hid is name and identity and called himself Agarwaen, son of Úmarth.

Sauron
Sauron was the Chief Lieutenant of Morgoth, who after his fall became another Dark Lord, and ultimately walked down the same ruinous path to oblivion. Sauron was also the main bad guy in The Lord of the Rings.

Nazgul
The Nazgul are also known as the Black Riders. They are the evil servants of Sauron.

Balrog (Fra)
The Balrog of Moria were winged creatures.

Morgoth
Morgoth fell from glory when he disrupted the Music of the Ainur and defied the will of Eru Ilúvatar. Morgoth corrupted many of the Ainur to his allegiance, fought the Valar, and corrupted Arda.

Gandalf
Gandalf was one of the five Istari sent to Middle-earth by the Valar in the Third Age. In Valinor he was known as Olórin. Gandalf was instrumental in bringing about the demise of Sauron.

Gothmog
Gothmog was the Lord of Balrogs and the High-captain of Angband, one of the chief servants of the Dark Lord Morgoth with a rank equal to that of Sauron.

Lungorthin
Lungorthin was a Balrog in early stages of The Silmarillion.

Scatha
Scatha the Worm was a mighty Long-worm from the Grey Mountains and one of the greatest Dragons to infest that range of the north.

Uruk-hai
The Uruk-hai were a breed of Orcs during the Third Age.

RaspberryBadfinger - 2009-02-24 10:14:21
Gorgoroth should be on there.

SKELETOYS - 2009-02-24 10:05:21
