The Gauntlet Metal Report From Across The Pond

One US band that is making a mark on UK territory is MAYLENE AND THE SONS OF DISASTER. Their Every Time I Die-style southern rawk action rolled across the UK last week and word has it they won many friends along the way. Talking of ETID, the Buffalo hardcore rock and rollers are booked to bring their infectious 'Big Dirty' sounds to these here parts in April, as are POISON THE WELL, who carry on with their extensive touring of latest album 'Versions'. BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE are being whored all over the world at the minute at an alarmingly intense rate. Their new album 'Scream Aim Fire' is currently number 2 in the UK charts, number 1 in Japan and in the top 10 in the States. Not bad for a band who little over a year ago were opening in tiny venues for melodic Alaskan metallers 36 Crazyfists! The DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL line up, the festival held at the holy grail of metal venues, Donnington Race Track, is being finalised. Word has it that KISS will be headlining one of the nights! Expect appearances from classic veterans JUDAS PRIEST and MOTORHEAD as well. Back to more modern metal and a band that you guys will be hearing about very, very soon is ARCHITECTS. Mixing technical spazz-ness ala Dillinger Escape Plan with dark sludgy metal ala Black Dahlia Murder they will be touring Canada in March with fellow UK boys JOHNNY TRUANT and Canadians THE END. Catch them in small venues now before they explode! The end of February sees one of the line-ups of the century hit the UK. DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN and BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME, two of the most respected names in all manners technical, will be tearing up and down the UK and will surely be wowing audiences with their majestic take on uber-intelligent heavy music. Georgia boys BARONESS have been trekking around Europe lately. I caught them at their sold-out show in London on Saturday and it was pretty special; their Mastodon-style beard metal impressing immensely. The KERRRANG tour hits the UK this week, with COHEED AND CAMBRIA headlining. UK punk 'n' rollers GALLOWS, who will be taking over the world any minute now, will be heading out on the mammoth US WARPED Tour in the summer. New York hardcore kids THIS IS HELL will be hitting the UK in April. The last time they were over here was on the sponser-ridden Comeback Kid tour playing in massive venues, so it will be great to see them laying waste to tiny clubs. MUNICIPAL WASTE will be bring their party thrash metal here this week, no doubt causing unprecedented chaos in the name of debauchery along the way. Don't be jealous though, they'll be back in the States across March.
