It's an unfortunate circumstance when a band comes along who has excellent skills at the metal arts and numerous bands' have already set their exact sound into recognition prior to their coming about. Neaera is not completely new but in the ways of releases they are still fresh. Their sophomore full length and debut on Iconoclast Recordings, "Let The Tempest Come", is a well rounded album which is jumping off at a time which might have them overlooked.
Neaera are going to have to work extra hard to convey their own voice. One listen of this band and you will be thinking Black Dahlia Murder in a second. This there in lies the problem on "Let The Tempest Come". They are borrowing the same sounds or rather simply over saturated with bands around them sharing the similar sound. This causes problems in the songs as well as the repetition that takes hold ensuring that they will be typecasted.
Originality gets skewed in this album as well, as there is not much promise in the band's song writing either. They rely way too much on switched up Iron Maiden melodies that sure everyone steals, so steal something else for a change. Gallops galore and quazi breakdowns infest the songs making them even more able to be ignored.
Neaera will be left in the dark with "Let The Tempest come" which is a shame because it's case number 5,000,000 where a band has that musical ability but runs around in circles.
