By commingling post hardcore catchiness with elements of metalcore, punk and a touch of jazz, Death Before Disco bring about a refreshing tonal quality that sounds fresh and exciting on their newest effort "Party Bullet." Ioan Kaes is a highly emotive vocalist with a tremendous sense of melody. His vocals have a sense of melodic urgency on "Blink, Brake" that is compelling and ear-catching. When he launches into screaming vocals, it is often only during a bridge, opting to inject more harmony into his vocalizations than many of his peers. This technique works for the group well, as DBD's songs focus on tunefulness, while managing to deliver a powerful punch due to the group's deft arrangements. "Putting Power To The Pauze" is a definite pick for airplay, fusing Incubus style vocal harmonies with the impact of the songwriting you would expect from Chevelle. "Kiss, Kill, Lolita" finds this Belgian quintet manifesting a massive guitar sound, then lapsing into a manic songpart that is pit worthy and shows no shortage of intensity. The track's amped up chorus is frantic, but the key point in the tune is it's clean bridge featuring sweeping guitar scales which lends a degree of originality to the song and makes the song's final chorus that much more rabid and infectious. On the bizarrely titled "...", you'll find the group engaging in a mellow interlude that serves as the album's intermission, ushering in the ringing, soulful echoes of "The Nation's Divide." Kaes spits out some angry, intimidating vox on "The Sweetened Itch" that fit in perfectly with the group's creative arrangement and here, you will find his clean vocals to be positively soaring. Death Before Disco have strived toward a refreshing outlook on the creation of the twelve tracks that comprise "Party Bullet", crafting music with depth, substance and diversity which certainly cannot be ignored. At once familiar, new sounding and exciting this album is a keeper all the way.
