Do you miss the days when bands just played straight up skullcrushing shit without pretention? Then bloodsimple is definitely a band that you are gonna want to check out. These guys set the volume on 11 an the blaster switch from stun to kill on their latest Reprise/ Bullygoat effort 'A Cruel World'. It doesn't matter that the band features former members of Vision Of Disorder, Downset and Skrew, it doesn't matter that this is the launch release for Chad Gray's Bullygaot imprint and it doesn't matter that this exceptional effort was produced by superstar producer Gggarth. What does matter is that this record is one hell of a bitch slap to the face of the conforming, cookie cutter metal scene that will no doubt leave it's mark as one of the greatest metal albums of 2005. bloodsimple aim to put the smackdown on your candyass with riveting brutalizations like the unforgiving opener 'Straight Hate', the beastly lead single 'Running From Nothing' and the determinedly slamming 'Blood In, Blood Out'. This album is one bad mutha that simply can't be stopped, a rejuvenation of stomping, thrashing aggression that will break you in two with its crunching guitars, thunderous beats and angst filled raw screams of passion. If you want heavy, then this is the place to look. But bloodsimple can mix things up a bit as well, injecting some bitter harmony into 'Sell Me Out' while nestling into a slinking metal groove on 'Cruel World' that proves that this band is not to be trifled with in any fashion whatsoever. Tim Williams can really let it loose vocally bringing a measure of fired up viciousness to the table. He has a great singing voice that pops up when appropriate, but when he unleashes that sick, angry voice, the band really kicks into high gear, creating booming beats and furious onslaughts of sound that will make for plenty of broken teeth in the mosh pit. 'Flatlined' echoes the type of vibe you get from a song like Pantera's 'Floods' at times and here Williams really stands out as a truly talented vocalist that is well rounded and a master of several moods and styles. There's really nothing that can be said about this album that's negative, every track hits hard and features fantastic individual performances by the band. Get ready, metal fans. Bloodsimple are mad as hell, badass purveyors of metal that are certainly here to stay for a very long while.
