Labyrinth continue to deliver hard hitting, progressively styled metal with flair on 'Freeman', a vibrant album featuring several stand out cuts. Opening with the wide open 'L.Y.A.F.H.', a track that immediately captures the listener's attention with a massive hook, Labyrinth show that they are not only fantastic in regard to instrumentation, but they deliver their material with an intense passion as well. The tracks difficult name is the thing that will keep it from seeing the airplay it deserves. You'll hear some fantastic guitar solo dueling during the textured 'Deserter' as Labyrnith reveal their power metal roots with a soaring, up-tempo chorus. 'Dive In Open Waters' is modern power metal at it's best, featuring swift chugging an epic breakdown. The melody breaks are both memorable and well executed and here the best comparison to be made would be a combination of Fates Warning, Nocturnal Rites and Helloween. Labyrnith at times during 'M3' sound more like HIM than power metal, showing that the band has the ability to pull off power metal with a pop sensibility. The spooky introduction to 'Malcolm Grey' does a lot for the ambience of this somber, lumbering track which Queensryche fans will completely fall in love with. Complete with string arrangements and a massive chorus vocal harmony, this track is the centerpiece of the record. Quite possibly, 'Freeman' is the best album yet from Labyrnith as 'Freeman' never ceases to be entertaining and well thought out throughout it's ten varied tracks. An instant progressive classic!
